Electronic Travel Authority FAQs

What is the ETA?

An ETA is an electronically stored authority for travel to Tanzania, and is accessible by Tanzanian border agencies, airlines and travel agents. It’s required that you obtain an ETA if you intend to travel to Tanzania. All non-citizens require a Visa or Electronic Travel Authority to enter Tanzania.

The great advantage of an ETA is that it is 100% electronic, which allows you to visit Tanzania without the need to apply through a departmental office for the traditional paper visa.

Visas are required for all citizens traveling to Tanzania. Foreign nationals may apply for a visa online in advance of travel. You can now apply for an Online Visa to visit the United Republic of Tanzania (both Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar).

The Tanzania Multiple Entry eVisa will be valid for 90 days per entry after initial arrival.

For US citizens, this only allows stays of up to 90 days Per Entry within a 180 day period.

  • Passport (bio page, valid at least 6 months);
  • A clear Front face photo as passport
  • Proof of Accommodation;
  • Return ticket of the flight (not mandatory);
